CIS 410 Operating Systems
Operating Systems
The user profile in both Windows and Linux operating systems are implemented quit differently. My definition of a user profile is a specific user's information that is contatined within the computers registery that has custom files which regulate the user's preferences like waht the user sees, startup programs that excute on boot, and computing restrictions when logging into a computer. Windows is much more user friendly then Linux OS when talking micro operating programs. Linux is better with API and web app technology. When it comes to mainframe computing Unix and Linux take the edge over Windows Server. Depending on what type of PC operating system you are using both operating systems have their advatages and disadvantages, this is why I have both.

The main differences of Windows compared to Linux operating system is that the file structure supports the user's profile and also how to modify these files. Windows searches the registery under the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current\Version\Profile List". Keys are similar to folders that are within the registery. When manipulate your user profile in Microsoft environment it is very user friendly. If you right-click on the screen and scrool down to properties you can change the settings for your user profile. Windows automatically maintains each user profile. Where as the Linux operating system makes the user manually type a code that something like : man 1 bash. That is not but half what the Linux user must type to set their user profile settings.
Characteristics' of both Windows and Linux are very similar in that they both can have multiple users, do multiple task at once, and are both time sharing machine that make computations. These characteristics may consist of the user's first name, last name, address, gender, contact, city, phone number, email address, and domain address! According to Russell Jones article at http://www.devx.com/ the main differences in characteristic of Linux and Windows operating system is that the "Linux is a kernel, as operating system - not a complete operating environment. Windows has a single interface. With Linux operating system users are free to choose among many commercially aviilable or free Graphical User Interface. In contrast Windows has 1 standard GUI.
Most IT professionals have both systems, most like to integrate both operating systems on 1 motherboard. I preferred to keep my systems mutually exclusive when it comes to motherboards. I have a Asus Chromebook with Chromium GCP Cloud Linux Kernel as my main computing system with a SGI DLL.
